The Department of Business Economics was founded (for the first time in Hungary) in 1987 – simultaneously with the launch of the economics education in Miskolc – and as a result of systematic organizational development work – it was transformed into the Institute of Business Sciences on July 1, 2000, in accordance with the institutionalization concept of the Faculty of Economics.

The Institute of Business Sciences conducts a wide range of educational activities, which are divided between the two departments of the Institute, the Department of Business Economics and the Department of Entrepreneurship. The Department of Business Economics specializes in the examination of management and management methodology issues of corporate and non-profit organizations, the exploration and analysis of successful operation and development opportunities, and the development of a strategy ensuring harmony between the company and the environment. The Department of Entrepreneurship specializes in discussing the knowledge necessary for the creation, development and operation of successful businesses, learning about the legal regulations of businesses, and providing modern IT knowledge.

We participate in the full-time, correspondence, Ph.D. and postgraduate training programs at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Miskolc. Our institute offers students an independent specialization in the Business and Management major, and performs tasks related to its operation with the help of the Entrepreneurship major. Among the master's programs, the Institute of Business Sciences is the leading institute for the Business Management and Business Development master's programs. 

In addition to economics students, we teach full-time and correspondence students of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Miskolc, and we also participate in the teaching of the MBA master's programs and postgraduate training Engineering-Economist, Law-Economist, Medical-Economist, Pharmacist-Economist. 

In our work, we place great emphasis on ensuring a high standard of education. Our goal is to provide our students with modern and competitive knowledge that is flexibly adaptable to their needs and meets the requirements of the European Union. To this end, we continuously update our curriculum, incorporating the results of the latest domestic and international research. Our institute cooperates with the Economic Sciences Working Committee of the Economic Sciences Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. It manages the Entrepreneurial Agora Mentor Program, which supports and helps university students become entrepreneurs. We are open to joint thinking between teachers and students, talent management and preserving traditions. Students can learn about various interesting topics and gain many experiences related to these.

The focus of our courses is practice-oriented, the aim of which is to provide students with tangible experience, good situational awareness and problem-solving abilities, skills, the ability to professionally review, analyze and evaluate corporate processes, and to solve management tasks arising in various areas of corporate activity. Our specialized students should acquire all the knowledge necessary to start and successfully operate an independent, functional business.

In addition to the traditional theoretical (lecture-centric) training form, there is also space for practice-oriented elements aimed at completing complex analysis, planning and problem-solving tasks. During the work, our students can develop their communication, speaking and presentation skills, both individually and in group work, in addition to their professional knowledge, which is essential in the economics career. The high quality of education is ensured by our highly experienced, committed lecturers in this field, using the latest practical methods and providing constantly up-to-date knowledge.
